Mesothelioma Cancer also known as Asbestos Cancer : The Threat

by admin on December 30, 2009

Mesothelioma as you might already be aware of, is a disease arising from the growth of cancerous cells which affect the abdominal cavity, chest cavity, and the area around the heart.  The disease is not commonly found and is quite difficult to detect and treat. The illness is associated with exposure to “asbestos” which is common in many work surroundings. Very few people manage to get diagnosed with this dreadful disease.

The common course of treatment in mesothelioma includes surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.  Anyone suffering from such a disease should always bear in mind that all treatment options should be followed as quickly as possible in order to get relief.

In the case of individuals who are habituated to working with asbestos, they face a higher possibility that they might be affected by “Mesothelioma Cancer”. These individuals stay safe till the age of forty. What that means is that the average age of the person affected with this disease is between fifty to seventy years.  There are more men who suffer from Mesothelioma than women. This is because men are exposed to work more in environments connected to asbestos than woman.

Mesothelioma cancer causes fluid to accumulate between the lining of the lung and cavity in the chest. The presence of fluid can be detected by the chest x-ray as well as a CT scan. In order to confirm the disease a biopsy of the affected region is generally administered.

This disease called “Mesothelioma cancer” is a life threatening disease and should not be neglected at any cost. One should take the advice of a qualified oncologist as soon as possible. The various forms of treatment need to be discussed for curing this disease so the patient gets some relief.

Now let’s take a look at the role “Asbestos” plays in our lives. The use of asbestos has been minimized in most of the applications in modern days since they are the exact source of Mesothelioma cancer. This in the US has been based out of the directive given by the federal government.  There are many factories that were using asbestos products in the early fifties and sixties that caused mesothelioma cancer to people.

There are many institutions who lend a helping hand in treating persons suffering from Mesothelioma cancer as well as the family members who get to suffer due to this terrible disease. Despite it being an uncommon disease there are many families who are affected every year.

When treating patients with Mesothelioma cancer surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are the prescribed methods. It is possible that if one form of treatment does not work for a patient the other available ways needs to be tried, until success is achieved. In order to see that Mesothelioma cancer is totally cured you must try the various forms of treatment available to you. Never Give Up is what I would tell to everyone reading this post. It is a challenge and like any challenge, the winner is the one who did not give up.
